E-SPORT OR NOT?

12/27/2020

The earliest known video game tournament took place on October 19, 1972 at Stanford University, for the game Spacewar. The grand prize at the time was a 1 year subscription to Rolling Stone magazine, the winner of the tournament was Bruce Baumgart, who won the five man free for all and Tovar and Robert Mass won the team competition. Fast forward to 2018, 46 years later and some of the prize monies for these tournaments are in the millions of dollars, the viewer ship for these tournaments has gone from thousands to over 44 million worldwide for a single tournament. Sponsorship for some of the gaming teams and players are five hundred million to a billion dollars, which makes the E-sport industry one of the fastest growing, if not the fastest growing in the sporting industry on the planet. The big question has always been, is E-sport a real sport?  Due to the rise in popularity as justification designating some games as real sport. Also some point to the careful planning, precise timing and skillful execution, ought to be what classifies an activity as a sport, and that physical exertion and outdoor playing areas are not required by all traditional or non-traditional sports. E-sport competitors do have injuries, just like any other so call traditional sports would have, for example E-sport players can have and do have carpal tunnel syndrome, some will experience shoulder and back problems because of the nature of the activity the constant sitting for hours and hours, without any kind of movement can also cause their Glute muscles to stop firing, which will lead to those issues and eventually sciatic nerve pain.   Carpal tunnel syndrome will rear its ugly head because of the overuse of the wrist and forearms, doing the same movements over and over again. These injuries can be avoided if E-sport players were to train specific for their sport, the way traditional sport athletes would. By getting stronger and more flexible, E-sport players would be able to play longer, have better reflexes and have longer carriers.
At the end of the day, my point is, if you're going to play E-sports, weather it's just for fun or at a professional level, why not keep your mind and body in the best condition to succeed in E-sports with less chance of injuries that will slow your progress and become real issues later on. Better conditioning will allow you to be mentally stronger and give you better focus during a competition. If you want to be the next JJOMAK, SEAGULL, XQC, SVENSKEREN or the next OVERWATCH, POKEMON, LEAGUE OF LENGENDS champion, then you should invest in a physical training program at BODYSMITH SPORT PERFORMANCE. Our training programs for E-sport players will allow you to play longer and to achieve better reaction times and help to reduce or eliminate injuries.
